As I read this article my attitude towards women who are prostitutes changed to some degree. I must confess that I used to judge harshly women who put themselves in that situation. I hardly thought of the reasons why most women found themselves in prostitution. Researching a bit more on the issue has better informed me of all the hardships and dangers these women go through. I never saw prostitutes as rape victims. I always thought women who were prostitutes voluntarily gave themselves. How naïve was I. It makes me sad to look at the statistics of women who find themselves involved in prostitution. Furthermore, I think of how blessed I am for having a loving supportive mother and father that up to this day have given me economic and mental support. Somehow I would like to see the government taking a stronger role to prevent future rapes and prostitution. I believe that bringing this issue to the spotlight and giving the public all the facts about, “what prostitutes go through on a daily basis,” will provide more sympathy and will bring more solutions when it comes to imprisoning the master minds behind the act, THE PIMPS!!!! Instead of catching the small fish (prostitutes) and blaming them solely for the act, police officials should concentrate their energies on imprisoning the pimps who in my eyes are far guiltier then the actual prostitutes. The difference between human trafficking and prostitution is clear. According to their definition, while human trafficking is the practice of people being coerced and forced to work, prostitution involves engaging in sex acts for hire. Although both are connected, it seems to me that prostitution might imply a sense of willingness from the person participating in such acts, but that does not mean that they aren't categorized as victims of rape as well - as it is the case with human trafficking too.
Whether it's right or wrong is up to whoever is participating in such events and outsiders who choose to judge it. It is extremely heartbreaking that people can be treated this way. As far as prostitution, something that people fail to look deeper into, it goes beyond the exposure and choice of a person, it is more about the physical and mental abuse these victims go through. Whether they choose that lifestyle or someone chooses it for them, the damages are similar and they permanently mark their lives. Now as far as human trafficking, its nonsense and unfairness is ridiculous. As Triff stated himself, this IS the 21st century, and I am appalled that things like this are still occurring after what's happened in the past. No matter how much history may repeat itself, human trafficking and the exploitation of human beings simply shouldn't be taking place. The level to which individuals, especially women, are brutalized is incredible. It is certainly an issue that should be taken care of to address ethical issues of respect, privacy and justice and ultimately assure security to women overall.
Kids, let's also look at the social causes, poverty, anomie, physical abuse, neglect, there are elements of social conditioning in those too. It produces and enforces certain behaviors.
Human trafficking and prostitution is a very serious and concerning topic that has been part of society ever since the 18th century. Prostitution is one of the oldest crimes in the world. Even though men are involved in this act, the most affected by this are women. Not any kind of women, usually women that have suffered a great deal all their life through poverty, abuse (both physically and mentally), and has been raped at least one time in their lifetime. These women have been beaten up and thrown into the side as trash. Most of these women go into it because of the hard circumstances they encounter throughout their path but others are kidnapped and forced into prostitution. An illegal underground crime that has been spreading more and more each year and that is so hard for the police to end this trend and rescue the women who are forcefully or unwilling capture into this. This is happening all around the world not in one specific country. Women in Albania are sold to be shipped to Italy like merchandise and if you go to the Albania police for help they themselves sell you back. Children are also very much affected by prostitution, mostly because they run away from home and live in the streets. In Russia, children are living in metro stations surviving on prostitution. In India girls as young as 10-years old are kidnapped and sold into Asia’s largest sex markets. Some of these girls that are rescued find that their families won’t take them back because they are prostitutes and usually HIV positive. Children in South Africa find prostitution as a way of survival because of poverty and that they don’t have a home to go back to. Right here in our home city, Hugo Gonzalez was running one of South Florida's best-kept and most lucrative Internet prostitution dens. Right underneath our noses and if it wasn’t because the police were trying to capture someone else and he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, they would have never known he was running an illegal human trafficking service. This is an awful, horrific, and sad service that should be stop as soon as possible because all these women and children are suffering tremendous and just want to live a normal and happy life.
After watching all the videos and reading the article on the Cuban pimp, I just can’t imagine all that happening in this date and age. I knew that it existed and thought that I knew why it happened but now I know that my idea of prostitution was far from the truth. I believe we struggle with this type of problems because we choose to look the other way; it seems a lot easier to just ignore the problem instead of facing it. Education and family values seem to play a huge part on the problem, it would be hard for any of us to think that your family would sell you or that someone will kidnap you and that no one would do anything about it. Also, what type of sick person are looking for children to have sex with and what type of heart if any do this madams and pimps have in order to see these girls crying, suffering and do nothing about it. How can money be worth more than a child’s innocence? Why are this people let of the hook so easily when they are permanently hurting this boys and girls physically, mentally and physiologically? These kids can’t go back to the way they were even if they try, they are facing scars from been separated from their families and problems such as STD’s at such an early age. It is unimaginable that we would let all this happen any were in the world, but even less here in the US were supposedly we are so technologically advance and educated. We need to think what type of education are we giving our youth when we see selling our bodies as the best/only way of improving our life.
The economical, emotional, and psychological disturbances that women around the globe undergo leads them into prostitution. These women do not choose sex for money because they enjoy to do so, but because they need in order to survive. Many of these women are desperately trying to get out of poverty in search of a more profounding future. Prostitutes are people that are mentally disturbed and find prostitution as a way of easily escaping their feeble situations. They fall into the category of drug addicts/sellers, alcoholics and any other addiction that is used to momentarily escape a needy situation; i.e. mental and economical stress. Also, these women choose prostitution because they come from poor social and economical backgrounds and feel as if they don't have an escape to their desparate situation; just like any human being who is deprived and easily becomes addicted to drugs. Some of these behaviors are a product of how our society runs. Their lack mental and physical skills that may prevent them from engaging in the workforce causes them to become inclined to prostitution; an easy and fast escape towards making money. Women that choose to engage in prostitution have been neglected their entire lives, either at school, at work or at home. A low self-esteem may have been caused by negligence of peers throughout their entire lives, which could have led the person into taking the decision of becoming a prostitute. The support of our society towards prostitution, as seen in the state of Nevada, gives way to this type of behavior. As an outcome, many of these women sink deeper into the shadows of society and become more abused as they choose prostitution for their ignorance. Every prostitute experiences rape, and as the definition states: forced sex. If sexual intercourse done without the true intentions of both the man and the woman, then it is considered rape. The world should invest money, especially the United States, in providing aid to these helpless women by either taking them to special learning facilities or by providing them with some type social help.
Didn't the women suffrage movement end years ago? It is terribly sad to see that events like these are still ocurring in different parts of the world. There aren't any laws agaisnt this? Why aren't people in these countries doing something about this? Reading this article and watching the different videos I was reminded of a movie I had seen not so long ago by the title of "Taken." This movie tells the story of a teenager who went to Europe with her best friend to follow a band she really enjoyed. While being there some guys take her, drug her up and use her as prostitution. The goal of the movie is for the father of this teenager to find his daughter. I don't think it's right that women are treated less than men and that prostitution is seen as a norm to some people. Women have the right to do as they want with their bodies but if they want to become prostitutes they should know that rape is involved with choosing that as a job. Prostitution should be illegal everywhere. Selling your body for sex is not something which should be called a job. If I ever met any woman who was going through this I would do my very best to help get her out. Living in prostitution is not living at all. It's like a complete horror story. Even from that movie "Taken" which I had seen, the images of the horrors these young girls went through does not escape my mind and I find myself remembering this film over and over again.
Prostitution, defined as working for an unworthy cause by Wikipedia, seems to be correct for those who view prostitution as such. However, those who voluntarily choose to exploit themselves have reasons that are of worth. Many woman who have become prostitutes have been sexually abused when they were younger, leaving a permanent psychological scar. Many believe they can’t leave the cycle of being sexually abused, it’s the environment they have been raised and are used to. Then, there are other women who do it because they need the money for school, or for just survival. I think these women who voluntarily choose to sell themselves need psychological help. Society has neglected them, looking down upon them because of their dirty deeds and way of living. But, what troubles me the most is child exploitation. It saddens me that children as young as ten or even younger are being robbed from their childhood. No child deserves to lose their right to happiness, nor for that matter should anyone disrespect themselves so much as to sell their body, and perform any action that is requested upon. - Sasha Pacheco
Even though prostitution is the oldest “occupation” in the history of the world, the reasons behind women engaging in these kinds of acts today, in the 21st century, are not very different from back in the earlier time and civilizations. Necessity. Not being able to obtain food, shelter and clothing: the most basic necessities of every human being, can lead into desperation. Once a person reaches this state of physical and psychological deterioration, anything could be considered an option for survival. Who is going to voluntarily or for pleasure be exposed to abuse and exploitation?. Though there may be some exceptions, contrary to popular belief, the great majority of them do it out of mere necessity,
I must disagree with some people that have expressed that these women tend to be mentally or physically incapable of performing any other more dignifying jobs. No. It is necessity what causes this to happen. This women could have been any of us. The urge for money as soon as possible in order to survive and protect the loved ones, when unemployment is a burden could lead anyone to fall into this trend. As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure the global economic crisis has caused the number of people engaging into this kind of activities to increase by a large percentage. Do not get me wrong, I am not trying to say it is OK for prostitution to exist, but I truly do believe it is extremely wrong to judge people without knowing the underlying issues that may prompt someone to falling into something as unfortunate as this. Seneca once said “If you judge, investigate”.
"92% [of prostitutes in the survey] stated that they wanted to escape prostitution immediately". I think it logically proceeds that the overwhelming majority of prostitutes hate their work. We must look at the social factors, as professor Triff states, that condition women to become prostitutes. These may include histories of abuse, poverty, and family rape that can warp a woman's minds, especially at an early age. They grow up thinking of such horrible things as a part of daily life, and when they have nowhere else to turn to because of problems, whether they are centered around poverty or drugs, they begin to integrate themselves into the sex market. Once inside, it must be very hard to get out, hence the 92% statistic. So in a way, prostitution is almost as bad as human trafficking because the apparent freedom of choice in the former is virtually absent; most prostitutes retain their jobs against their will.
Prostitution has been around for many years; however, it is incredible that despite all the efforts to protect human rights, this continues to be an issue. I believe that when looking at prostitution one must differentiate between different kinds that exist within this broad category. Many women enter this occupation because of experiences which have affected them psychologically at a young age such as rape, abuse, or similar conditions at home. These women need to be provided with assistance to overcome this psychological damage and be able to start living a life away from this since this only contributes to their damage and a life of continuous rape, abuse, and denigration. On the other hand, some women see prostitution as a source of income in times of hardship; they enter the profession as an outlet to a harsh economic time. However, once they enter this occupation it is hard for them to leave since they might be forced by their 'boss' to stay or other factors. These women need to be educated so that they see that prostitution should not even be an option in times of hardship, there is always another way to get the money they need without leaving psychological damage which will last forever. In spite of this, there are women who are forced to be prostitutes, whether they are sold to a brothel or similar by their families or they are forced to do this by their partner or another person, their rights are being violated as they are forced to sell their bodies for money. Human rights must be enforced in this case, countries, agencies, and organizations all need to implement ways to protect the rights of these women. For instance, the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women is directing some of its resources to protect women from this allowing them to move forward in their life and actually have a future.
Although human trafficking, prostitution, and similar horrors are unacceptable and should not exist, the reality is that they have always existed and they will probably always exist. It is no surprise that the sex slave industry is a growing market. Last year profiting $32 billion, the industry continues to expand. The causes of prostitution and human trafficking are abject poverty, lack of education, violence, abandonment, oppression, and lack of social or political order and stability. Prostitution not only affects the women, pimps, johns, etcetera, it indirectly affects our entire society. STD's are spread by prostitutes, violence is more common in areas where prostitutes are present, drugs, a common currency for prostitutes, also become more widespread.
Although prostitution and human trafficking are terrible issues that every society faces, they are practically inevitable. Each society and country needs to try to minimize the number of these cases by providing education and opportunities for all citizens, especially, in some countries, for the most ignored of all populations, women. The reason why prostitutes are present is because there is a demand. If we minimize or eliminate this demand we can also end the tragic cycle of human trafficking and prostitution. It is necessary for each and every one of us to do our part to end prostitution by staying away from brothels, strip clubs, escort services, and similar services where human trafficking victims are found. If 92% of prostitutes stated that they wanted to escape prostitution immediately, why is no one rescuing these desperate people? Unfortunately, there is little awareness about this issue. All of us constantly complain about how terrible and unfortunate prostitution is, but nevertheless we indirectly or directly support it. By playing the video games that promote prostitution, listening to the music that degrades women, watching television that flaunt "easy" women, going to strip clubs, and viewing sex as an "industry," we ALL ruthlessly support and contribute to human trafficking, and so many of the problems that destroy society.
Personally, prostitution is a very hard topic for me to talk about due to the fact that the values instilled in me, and what I consider to be morally correct makes it almost inconceivable that some people would have such little respect for themselves or others. The first question that comes to mind is what if it were happening to a woman in my family, or if it were my daughter? While we always hear of cases of women becoming prostitutes because stereotypes such as “she was a high school dropout” or “she does it because it is easy money for her” we forget that this is slowly becoming a worldwide pandemic. In the meantime we sit comfortably in the bubble we create for ourselves isolating us from what we know is the truth, and events we can foresee as eminent and disastrous. For those that claim they live a “regular” life routines consist of things that offer comfort, stability, and allow them to repeat the same sequence day in and day out, not realizing that beneath the facade of that world there is an underground that many of those people would consider monstrous and terrible. Prostitution is a world in which humans are trafficked and sold solely for selfish gain reducing women to nothing more than mere expendable objects with no feelings, no soul, and no voice. Moreover society must also see that the causes of this can be socially stimulated, due to physical abuse, and substance abuse. Socially I see how the media represents and talks about women and I feel disgusted by it. I don’t have a clue when it became socially acceptable to call a woman a bitch and claim to still respect them. Moreover all the standards that are set upon women lead them to believe that they can be reduced to physical appearances and that they amount to nothing more than objects. Physical and substance abuse produces a habit within that person leading them to believe that what they are doing is correct, and or produce an addiction. Furthermore addictions to drugs or a lifetime of physical abuse can lead to a person being more prone to a life or prostitution and to allow others to control her life. I think society in general needs to change the way it views and treats women, and looking back into history all you see is a history of abuse and destruction. The sooner we change our mindset and deal with these issues properly the more we can reform and change the future for our kids and for those women who need help.
Human trafficking and prostitution is one of the saddest and scariest situation I have ever heard of. Knowing that this has been happening in our world, in my neighborhood, since the 18th century and is still happening, maybe even worse than ever, is unbelievable. Those who are poor or abused have other choices to get money, but they think that selling their bodies is the best way out of their misery but its not. Some are kidnapped and forced by their pimps against their will and are threatened if they run away. The ones who do it willingly want money to survive, the others need money to satisfy their pimps and saves them a beating or two. Accompanying the money comes more abuse, rape and emotional problems that traumatize these women forever. However, I don’t blame these women or their pimps, I blame the police. Our police system, and those around the world are extremely corrupt as they watch these women being sold under their noses. Not only are adult women being sold, but young children who haven’t even hit puberty or have seen the world outside their elementary school classroom. There are 10 year olds that have been on the street for 4 years that look like they are 25 because of all the abuse, sex, and maltreatment. I know I’m not alone when I say this, but I’m scared as hell. Just yesterday a good friend of mine was followed by three arabic men threatening her if she didn’t get out of her car. Luckily her parents showed up right away and scared those bastards away. This happened 15 minutes away from her house, in our neighborhood. It was a reality check for all of us. Even though we say “no, that cant happen to me”, it can! Everyone, not only women, need to be aware and cautious of everything and everyone at all times.
Sometimes we do not realize of how fortunate we are until we see dreadful nowadays situations or situations we thought were exterminated long time ago. After watching the videos, I realized that women have always been seen by men as a sex objects. The biggest misconception people have in general is that women choose to become prostitutes, which is not always the case. Sometimes these women are forced to become prostitutes; the reasons vary from women that have been tricked with false promising jobs and the necessity for money to buy food and other essential items for survival. Human trafficking is something the government should take care about, because not only traffickers are persuading and sabotaging women to do this horrendous job, but also they are using children. I believe children prostitution goes beyond boundaries, these traffickers are stealing these children their innocence and I believe this is totally unfair and someone should do something to change this.
Human trafficking and prostitution are two dreadful concerning topics in today’s world. Throughout time, women have been suffering because of the occupation they end up taking as prostitutes. When I read the alarming facts I came to realize that many of these women have been raped and are the victims of violence. I think it's sad that we are still dealing with these horrendous issues in the Twenty-First Century. From the facts we learned that 92% of the women engaged in prostitution want to escape this occupation and state of living immediately. I believe we, as human beings should come together to fight this problem. We should try to help restore the lives of some of these women and we should also work in preventing any other women from becoming prostitutes. In addition, as a society we should realize that we contribute to this issue by supporting the commercial sex industry. We should discourage outcall services, strip clubs, lap dancing, and phone sex, among other things. I hardly believe that more people should become aware of the situation of the women involved in prostitution and in human trafficking in order to understand the whole issue better. We shouldn't judge these women; instead we should be considerate and try to help in any possible way. Maria Vargas
Many people ignore how delicate the circumstances of prostitution can be and are quick to judge prostitutes as immoral beings. However, noone really knows what happened and how they got there. Would the perception be different? I believe that prostitutes are not to be condemned for their work by society, but instead worried for. The job of a prostitute entitles vulnerability to violence, abuse, discrimination, and disease. Nevertheless, these women are still prostituting themselves. In some cultures, it is customary that as a child or a woman, you are a possession. In this case, they often used as a product and sold.
While women are exploited sexually, some of them were described as “under a spell” in the article about the Miami Pimp. I believe this is very common in this type of story and it is also commong that the women could have received some kind of abuse at home during childhood and as a consequence drifted from what they knew their parents’ “right and wrong” were in rebellion, r different causes. The destiny of most of these women is slavery and psychological damage. I found it interesting that these women were described as under spells. The psychological damage that they must have received to inverse their perception of prostitution must have been severe.
Ethically, women run the risk of being mentally abused as they are manipulated, as in the case of the women in this Miami Pimp article. Also, if the act of prostitution is analyzed it conflicts with a morale found among many that promiscuity is self-degrading. Here it enters an arena where not only are they being put under dangerous circumstances being at harmful men’s disposal, but also losing respect for themselves and their bodies.
When discussing issues on prostitution and human trafficking, most people can't help but think of these women as "dirty" or "worthless". Truth is, most of us don't take into account how much physical and mental damage these women undergo. Although prostitution can be dated back for as long as we can remember,it has worsened over the years. According to the facts on Triff's post "prostitutes are the most raped class of women in the history of our planet!" Many of them have experienced physical assault, homelessness and have had several health problems. "My feet, bottom of my feet, have been burned; they've been whooped with a hot iron and clothes hanger... there hasn’t been a place on my body that hasn’t been bruised somehow, some way, some big, some small," these are the words of a woman who obviously has endured traumatic physical abuse. This post was hard to read, it ceases to amaze me how corrupt and inhumane society has become; are we that oblivious that we can't see what is happening in our own backyard? Why do we still struggle with these horrible issues in the twenty-first century? Honestly, I believe it's due to the lack of knowledge and ignorance of people. These women who instead of being helped are neglected time and time again simply because people think that they got what they asked for. Some people really don't understand the true of definition poverty and desperation to provide for one's family; yes, of course there are other ways to make a living, but we can't sit here and judge people when we are not in their shoes. The best way we can help is to let people know what is really going on behind closed doors, talk to these women and find a way to get them out of this nightmare of a situation.
Many see prostitution and human trafficking as two different things, thinking prostitution is an “occupation” these women choose. However, neither “occupation” is chosen, these women are forced to sell their body due to the necessity they face. As it is seen in the article, 72% of these individuals are homeless. It gets to the point in which they need to find a way to survive, and the only solution they can find, unfortunately, is prostitution. Many people are quick to judge, saying that someone chooses to be a prostitute because they’re lazy and don’t want to look for a real job, or they simply like having sex with strangers. I don’t believe anyone would like to be treated as an object, being used to only give pleasure, being exposed to STD’s and violence. It is evident that these individuals want to find a way out, as the statistics show. It is true there are different categories in the sex industry, and many do it for necessity. For example, escort services have become very popular in my home country Colombia. However, many of these young girls (starting at the age of 14) get involved in this industry because they want to help their families economically, and once they are in it they can never come out of it alive, due to the fact that these men are in most cases the most dangerous ones. These girls go in it in search of a better life, but what they find is drug, physical, and psychological abuse. No one deserves this lifestyle; hopefully this industry will come to an end soon.
Whether willingly or forced women have been selling their bodies for centuries, making prostitution one of the oldest “professions.” Everyone knows about it, yet most avoid speaking of it because it is considered an immoral act in the eyes of a global judgmental society. It is clear that there are many forms of prostitution, one that is consented and another that is enforced upon a woman, better known worldwide as trafficking. I consider both to be atrocious forms of giving use to the female body; however at times it is important to look at matters from a different angle, and this is definitely one of those topics in which one must take many outside factors into consideration. Although, I strongly believe that individuals have the choice to create their own wellbeing, I can understand that many women who voluntarily prostitute themselves do it because they are surrounded by nothing other than poverty, abusive families, alcoholic parents/ husbands, etc. These women experience things that are not in any sense comforting, and in search for better life standards they resort to what they think will solve many of their problems without knowing that once they enter the “business” they are bound to confront rape, aggression, manipulation, and self degradation. On the other hand what is worse is human trafficking in which women are either kidnapped or sold like animals. This could very well be considered female prostitution enslavement, something that goes against human rights and all that is considered free will. The bottom line is that something needs to be done about prostitution and to do so we must begin by removing society’s blindfold. These women need help!!! They need to be offered psychological treatment and allowed a chance to see what it is like to break away from their suffering. Therefore, I think it’s about time that we make this something big and expose the realities of prostitution so that together we can fight against it.
It is extremely disturbing to learn about children in Russia being homeless, smoking and begging for money, even young girls giving up their bodies for prostitution for money. Japanese women being prepared to get raped by the Super Free rape club and giving in to their schemes without letting the police know. Somewhere I had read that prostitution is the world’s oldest profession; a horribly degrading profession in my opinion. These women are robbed from their own bodies, desires and free will, which is completely immoral, unjust and should not be occurring at all, especially now that we're in the 21st century. In all kinds of prostitutions, including being sold “by one’s family to a brothel,” being kidnapped, “pimped by… the boyfriend,” stripping in a strip club where men touch women,” women are hurt. Violence is the prevalent issue. Why? Because in the act of giving up one’s body to the man, that man has complete control of her decisions and desires, regardless of whether she agrees or not. This is the reason why we hear women describing their health in such horrid conditions and why studies have shown that more than half of women who prostitute have been physically abused. This is a horrible and globally occurring issue that needs to be addressed as quickly as possible due to the extreme immorality behind women inherently being emotionally and physically traumatized by such acts of unwilling desires.
Prostitution; a form of business, of "pleasure", and a quick way for both sides of the equation to get what they want/need. But the true question is: what are we doing to protect these women, or better shall I say, victims? I think: not enough. These women are more than just pieces of meat that men/women use and abuse, and they're more than just the puns that we include in our jokes whenever we directly/indirectly insult them. We must keep in mind that it, and
These are human beings, with feelings, emotions, and hardships. The least we can do, is try to help them get out of their ruts, and help them not only get the physical and psychological evalutions and help they probably need, but also make a push to help prevent women, men, and transgendered from landing in these situations. After all, many of these people are fighting rape, homelessness, diseases, as well as phsyical abuse. Something must be done, and it must be done soon, or else, the numbers are only going to continue rising, and the effects will soon become worse and worse.
Prostitution has been probably one of the human race's oldest professions, however, since its origin it has not shown "improvement".Workers are still treated as second rated individuals (and although there are male prostitutes, there is a larger percentage of women, and more women are exposed to physical abuse). As a man who has a deep respect and love for women I find the concept of prostitution deplorable, and whats worse is that us "men" are what fool this immoral trade. This human trafficking of woman scar not only their bodies, but their souls as well. Although there are those who accept their fate or say they "enjoy" their job because it is fast money, there is a significantly larger percentage of woman who want to escape the trade. However, most of them have no homes or friends/family to go to since they have been sold as children or isolated from everyone once they joined the trade. And being alone contributes to their acceptance of abuse by their bosses and customers since they have nobody to rely on. I believe that this is an act that can be eliminated in the world, if men were educated into respecting women and loving their mothers. Because I believe that if men respected and love their mothers, it is the first step into loving and respecting women universally.
It’s interesting to read that, "about 80% of women in prostitution have been the victim of a rape.” There is a major misconception (maybe) that prostitution and rape don’t go together. I happen to know a couple of people who do this because they find it easy and perhaps that is why I don’t feel as much compassion as I used to for the people who work in this occupation. And as in any profession, there are different reasons why they decide to work as prostitutes (professor Triff mentioned some of them). And yes, some of them work as prostitutes because they have “no other choice.” However, I think it is important to mention that some of these women do this because they want to get money without making “any effort.” But regardless of the reasons, it is really sad that 80% of them are victims of rape. What’s even more freighting is the idea of child exploitation and child pornography. Just the thought of a child being exploited causes anyone to feel terrified about the type of society we’re living in.
Prostitution, especially through sex-trafficking, is evidence of a tendency to objectify women in most cultures. Even in the United States, where women have been granted so many freedoms, women are commodities that can be sold and bought. I do think that there is an element of choice in becoming a prostitute, but this is not always the case. The statistic regarding the rape of prostitutes is also surprising, since it seems as though this crime goes unpunished. There is a general disdain for prostitutes, to the point that they are often regarded as less than human. Rape against a prostitute is not seen as a serious offense since sex is their profession, and something they engage in numbly. However, this objectification of their bodies is actually psychologically and physically damaging, and recognizing this is the first step in helping them.

ReplyDeleteWhether it's right or wrong is up to whoever is participating in such events and outsiders who choose to judge it.

ReplyDeleteHuman trafficking and prostitution is a very serious and concerning topic that has been part of society ever since the 18th century.

Though there may be some exceptions, contrary to popular belief, the great majority of them do it out of mere necessity,
ReplyDeleteI must disagree with some people that have expressed that these women tend to be mentally or physically incapable of performing any other more dignifying jobs.

ReplyDeleteChristian Bureu

ReplyDeleteAlthough prostitution and human trafficking are terrible issues that every society faces, they are practically inevitable.

ReplyDeleteHuman trafficking and prostitution are two dreadful concerning topics in today’s world.
ReplyDeleteMaria Vargas
Many people ignore how delicate the circumstances of prostitution can be and are quick to judge prostitutes as immoral beings. However, noone really knows what happened and how they got there. Would the perception be different? I believe that prostitutes are not to be condemned for their work by society, but instead worried for. The job of a prostitute entitles vulnerability to violence, abuse, discrimination, and disease. Nevertheless, these women are still prostituting themselves. In some cultures, it is customary that as a child or a woman, you are a possession. In this case, they often used as a product and sold.
ReplyDeleteWhile women are exploited sexually, some of them were described as “under a spell” in the article about the Miami Pimp.

ReplyDelete-Yalila Perez

ReplyDeleteLeidy Santos
It is extremely disturbing to learn about children in Russia being homeless, smoking and begging for money, even young girls giving up their bodies for prostitution for money. Japanese women being prepared to get raped by the Super Free rape club and giving in to their schemes without letting the police know. Somewhere I had read that prostitution is the world’s oldest profession; a horribly degrading profession in my opinion. These women are robbed from their own bodies, desires and free will, which is completely immoral, unjust and should not be occurring at all, especially now that we're in the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteIn all kinds of prostitutions, including being sold “by one’s family to a brothel,” being kidnapped, “pimped by… the boyfriend,” stripping in a strip club where men touch women,” women are hurt.
We must keep in mind that it, and
ReplyDeleteThese are human beings, with feelings, emotions, and hardships.

ReplyDeleteThis human trafficking of woman scar not only their bodies, but their souls as well.
Emmanuel Fernandez
